This special Mexican holiday is celebrated throughout the US too. More traditionally, it’s a special holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. In honor of this year’s Dia De Los Muertos, we made cookies! Take a look at how you can make shimmer skulls, roses and a signature plaque cookie.

Supplies Needed for Dia De Los Muertos Cookies

Plaque Cookie:

Begin by outlining the plaque cookie in white
Flood the cookie in white
Using a projector, we found a fun font and added the wording. It’s best to use a little thicker icing for writing so it holds its shape
Add a rose to tie in the rest of your set. Outline in black

Skull Cookie:

Paint the background of the skull shape with dark purple and add an generous amount of edible glitter
Outline the shape of the skull including a line across just below the nostrils, add the eyes, nostrils and a mouth
Flood the cookie leaving the eyes, nostrils and mouth exposed to the glitter below
Add a mouthful of teeth
Finally, add roses and leaves

Rose Cookies:

Outline the rose cookie using red or purple
Flood in purple
Flood in red
Next, add a black swirl. Start the swirl from the top and bring it down to the bottom of the flower to give the illusion of petals
Add green leaves using leave tip Atecto no.66
